7月12號 Day 1: Taipei 101
Tumblr media
What did we do today? Today was an eventful day and a great experience. I enjoyed taking the subway. It was a new experience and way bigger than I expected. I think I am getting more familiar with the subways now. At least the main stations that are near our hotel. I was a week early but relied on the bus system, so I was never familiar with the subway system. Then we had a tour around Taipei 101. The view from the top was amazing and I was able to see so much of Taipei from there. We learned a lot from that tour about taipei. At the top I was able to even see some of the places where I hiked previously. Then, after the tour some of the group went to this fancy restaurant where we had so many different types of food. It was a little hard to find and I was a little nervous about where we were going. But, after we found the place and sat down we were served so much food. My favorite was the pork, and surprisingly the radish cakes as well. They made them very well at this restaurant. After the restaurant we all went to the mall for a bit. I saw a fake Auntie Anne’s. There was a sign but no store – it was very sad because that is my favorite snack place. Then we went back to the hotel for a bit. Finally, we ended our night at the Ximen district where we got to see some cool yo-yo tricks and I tried boba xiao long bao. Very interesting combo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our main adventure today was going to Taipei 101. I learned so much about the tower. In 2004 it claimed the title of the world's tallest building, but eventually would lose that title in 2010 to the Burj Khalifa. But, there is something so unique about Taipei 101. It was constructed in one of the worst locations where you can put a tall building. It is susceptible to many earthquakes and very high winds during monsoon season. As countermeasures, to prevent the tower from swaying too much or collapsing, they engineered the largest tuned mass damper which reduces the swaying of the building. It is essentially a 660 metric ton suspended steel ball on the 88th floor of the building.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We got a chance to go all the way to the top and see the Tuned Mass Damper. Since there were no high winds, we did not see the ball swinging but it was still cool to look at. It is plated in gold and held up by steel ropes and some hydraulics. To get to the top we took what was the fastest elevator in the world until 2016. It reaches 60 kph and while riding it my ears popped. It was like being in a plane almost. Very cool experience. It was so awesome to experience the actual things I read about. I can now say I have been on an elevator that was going faster than 30mph. So cool! Until next time, 再見!

Tag 2. 05.07.2023
Day 2. July 5, 2023.
The first day in Dubai started with the "Dubai Frame," a 150-meter-tall hollow square adorned with a golden exterior. We enjoyed the view and sought refuge from the heat. Next, we went to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world (828m). We took a 77-second elevator ride to the 125th floor. Up there, we took pictures with around 100 of our Russian tourist brothers and looked down at the concrete jungle beneath our feet. After that, thanks to Wilson's classmate's recommendation, we dined at "Din Tai Fung," a Taiwanese chain known for its excellent food. Wilson had a hard time (A) identifying the dishes, (B) eating with chopsticks, and (C) holding back laughter fits. Well, that's what an engineering degree does to you... Shortly after, we went to Dubai Marina, where we took a boat tour of the "Dubai Palm." We were both amazed that not only were there hundreds of skyscrapers reaching skyward but also that construction was still going on everywhere. We passed by 5-, 6-, and 7-star hotels... Incredible. Afterward, we walked along the marina and returned to the hotel. Water loss per person? At least 3 liters...
(Note: Feel free to follow our blog to comment on the reports and give them a 'like'. This way, we can interact with you more effectively. We look forward to hearing from you!)

REAL ESTATE BUSINESS IN DUBAI, DOWNTOWN / DESIGN DISTRICT
Life in Dubai: Where Opulence Meets Innovation in Downtown and Design District
Dubai, the city of towering skyscrapers, dazzling lights, and seemingly endless luxury, holds two distinct gems within its heart: Downtown Dubai and Dubai Design District (d3). While both share the vibrant pulse of the city, each offers a unique flavor of life, attracting residents seeking different experiences. So, which one might suit you better? Let's explore the essence of life in each:
Downtown Dubai: A Symphony of Luxury and Convenience
Imagine stepping out your door and being greeted by the Burj Khalifa piercing the clouds, the Dubai Mall offering an endless array of designer brands, and the Dubai Fountain captivating you with its choreographed water dance. This is the quintessential Downtown Dubai experience. Life here is fast-paced, opulent, and dripping with convenience. Luxury apartments with breathtaking views, Michelin-starred restaurants, and designer boutiques are your everyday companions.
Living the high life: Residents in Downtown enjoy effortless living. Everything is a stone's throw away, from world-class entertainment like Dubai Opera to iconic landmarks like Dubai Museum. Whether you crave a quick grocery run or a lavish spa treatment, there's an option for every whim. Connectivity is seamless, with efficient public transport and readily available taxis.
The flip side of opulence: Life in Downtown comes with a hefty price tag. Rents are notoriously high, and the constant buzz of activity can be overwhelming for those seeking quieter spaces. While family-friendly options exist, the focus on luxury caters more to young professionals and jet-setters seeking a vibrant, fast-paced lifestyle.
Dubai Design District: Where Creativity Collides with Community
Tucked away on the banks of Dubai Creek, d3 offers a starkly different atmosphere. Vibrant street art adorns repurposed warehouses, trendy cafes buzz with creative energy, and independent design studios showcase innovative ideas. Here, life pulsates with a creative heartbeat, attracting artists, entrepreneurs, and design enthusiasts.
Cultivating creativity: Artists find an inspiring haven in d3, with dedicated studios, co-working spaces, and regular exhibitions fostering collaboration and growth. The community spirit is strong, with events and workshops bringing people together to share ideas and support each other's endeavors. Families are welcome, with the relaxed atmosphere and focus on art offering a unique upbringing.
Finding balance: Life in d3 is more affordable than Downtown, with a mix of residential options catering to diverse budgets. While amenities aren't as readily available, the walkable community vibe makes exploring a pleasure. The pace is slower, encouraging residents to connect with themselves and their surroundings.
Choosing your Dubai:
Ultimately, the "better" place to live depends on your personal preferences and priorities. Do you crave the convenience and luxury of Downtown, or the creative energy and community spirit of d3?
For the:
Young professional or jet-setter: Downtown's fast-paced, luxurious lifestyle beckons.
Family seeking a unique upbringing: d3's artistic community and slower pace offer a different perspective.
Passionate artist or entrepreneur: d3's collaborative atmosphere fuels creative pursuits.
Budget-conscious individual: d3 offers more affordable options while still providing access to Dubai's attractions.
Beyond the divide:
While both Downtown and d3 exist as distinct entities, they are interwoven into the fabric of Dubai. Residents can effortlessly experience both worlds, with convenient access and a shared cultural pulse. So, whether you choose the opulent symphony of Downtown or the creative melody of d3, remember that the true magic of Dubai lies in its ability to cater to diverse desires, offering a unique experience for everyone.

National Skyscraper Day
Skyscrapers have become pretty commonplace in modern times, and National Skyscraper Day is our golden opportunity to appreciate these architectural marvels and feats of engineering. Skyscrapers grace our big cities with their bold presence and define our skylines with mighty buildings that literally seem to scrape the sky. But skyscrapers have only been around for about 130 years. The world’s first skyscraper was completed in 1885 in Chicago and it stood only 138 feet tall, a mere 10 stories that would not even count as a skyscraper today. But the name stuck, and initially any building that towered high over the surrounding structures was dubbed a skyscraper. Over time, our ability to engineer and construct skyscrapers improved drastically, and now a building must have at least 40 floors to be classified as a skyscraper at all. In crowded urban areas where land space is at a premium, skyscrapers allow us to build upwards rather than outwards, converting a single allotment of land area into 40 or more floors of potential living space. For National Skyscraper Day on September 3, we invite you to join us in taking a long look up.
National Skyscraper Day timeline
1870 Elevators Rise in Popularity
According to one of the top NYC PR Firms, the Equitable Life Building in NYC was the first tall office building with an elevator.
1884 The First Skyscraper
Chicago's Home Insurance Building is built; at 138 feet,  it is considered the world's first skyscraper
2010 Burj Khalifa Opens
Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest building in the world at 2,722 feet, including the antennae
National Skyscraper Day Activities
Visit the top of your local skyscraper
Explore your local architecture or engineering
Build your own skyscraper
Chances are, you live within visiting distance of a skyscraper, and National Skyscraper Day is the perfect excuse to see your local skyscraper up close. Take a trip to your skyscraper and get a sense of the building from the inside. Ride the elevator (or dare to climb the stairs) to the top of the building and look out the window at the city around you. The top floors of many skyscrapers have restaurants, tours, or other ways to engage visitors, so poke around the offerings at your local skyscraper and have some fun!
Most of us weren't cut out to be architects or engineers, but that doesn't mean you can't appreciate these two crucial professions and what they bring to many aspects of modern life. National Skyscraper Day is a great opportunity to learn about the styles of architecture in your area. Or if you prefer something a little less artsy, you can read up on the engineering challenges that were overcome to construct the skyscrapers near you. Every area is different, and regional construction challenges had an impact on how your local skyscrapers were built.
Most skyscrapers have a steel framework that works to support various curtain walls, but you can make a miniature version at home with building blocks, dry pasta and glue, or even toothpicks and tongue depressors. Decide on your materials ahead of time, and challenge your friends to a skyscraper contest! Give everyone the same amount of building time, and see who can make the tallest skyscraper of all. You could even hold a skyscraper party with a number of teams all competing for that top spot.
Why We Love National Skyscraper Day
Their lofty top-down perspective
They bring the prestige
They combine science and art
No matter how you slice it, there's one thing all skyscrapers have in common — they're tall. A modern-day skyscraper boasts at least 40 floors from bottom to top, and it can offer you some really unparalleled views of the surrounding cityscape. The higher you go, the smaller the bustle on the ground looks, and the tallest skyscrapers around the world can make the people and even the cars seem like tiny little ants. Whether you're struggling with some mundane problems or seeking a more big-picture outlook on life, there's nothing quite like looking down from the top of a skyscraper.
Whenever a new skyscraper makes the list of the world's tallest buildings, it creates a considerable amount of prestige for the city, state, and country it calls home. Skyscrapers really define the skyline from which a city derives a lot of its identity and unique personality. Hosting a skyscraper is really a mark of your city's economic prowess, and cities with more skyscrapers tend to see more business activity than cities with lower rooftops. If you've ever opted for a hotel's penthouse suite or felt impressed by a top-floor corner office, you've experienced the allure of skyscraper prestige firsthand.
Though the official origins of National Skyscraper Day are unknown, it remains clear that skyscrapers are a true testament to the awesomeness of humanity. They are gargantuan projects that rely on heavy-duty science and the artistry of design in equal measure. Skyscrapers require brilliant architects who can design beautiful buildings that will proudly feature in the city skyline for generations to come. But skyscrapers also rely on ingenious engineers to turn architectural designs into a real-world plan of action founded on modern scientific principles.

Its unique blend of ultramodern architecture, traditional culture, and natural wonders makes it a must-visit for every traveler. Whether you seek adventure, relaxation, shopping, or cultural exploration, Dubai has something for everyone. Let’s explore the best ways to make the most of your trip to this iconic city.
1. Experience the World’s Tallest Building
One of Dubai’s most famous attractions is the Burj Khalifa. Standing at an astounding height of 828 meters, it offers breathtaking views of the city’s skyline. Visitors can enjoy the observation decks on the 124th and 148th floors. For a more exclusive experience, dine at the Atmosphere restaurant located on the 122nd floor. Sunset visits are especially popular, providing a magical view of the city transitioning from day to night.
2. Shop in Style
Dubai is often referred to as a shopper’s paradise. The Dubai Mall, the largest shopping mall in the world, is a destination in itself. With over 1,200 retail outlets, an indoor aquarium, and a massive ice rink, it caters to every interest. Alternatively, the Mall of the Emirates offers a unique experience with its indoor ski slope, Ski Dubai. For a more traditional shopping experience, explore the Gold Souk and Spice Souk in Deira, where you can bargain for gold jewelry, exotic spices, and other traditional items.
3. Dhow Cruise Dubai Marina
For a serene and memorable experience, the Dhow Cruise Dubai Marina is a must-try. Aboard a traditional wooden dhow, you’ll glide along the waters of Dubai Marina, surrounded by stunning skyscrapers and illuminated architecture. The cruise typically includes a delectable buffet dinner, live entertainment, and spectacular views of the city’s vibrant nightlife. This unique blend of tradition and modernity captures the essence of Dubai.
4. Desert Safari Adventures
No trip to Dubai is complete without experiencing the desert. A desert safari offers an adrenaline-packed adventure with activities such as dune bashing, sandboarding, and quad biking. For a more relaxed experience, enjoy a camel ride or watch a mesmerizing sunset over the golden dunes. Most safaris end with a traditional Bedouin-style camp, complete with Arabic cuisine, henna painting, and cultural performances like belly dancing and Tanoura shows.
5. Visit Iconic Landmarks
Dubai is home to several world-renowned landmarks. The Palm Jumeirah, an artificial archipelago, is a marvel of modern engineering. Visitors can relax at luxury resorts like Atlantis, The Palm, or dine at world-class restaurants. The Dubai Frame, a massive golden structure, offers panoramic views of both old and new Dubai. For those fascinated by architecture, the Museum of the Future is a futuristic masterpiece showcasing innovations that could shape tomorrow.
6. Enjoy Beaches and Water Parks
Dubai’s pristine beaches are perfect for soaking up the sun or enjoying water sports. Jumeirah Beach, Kite Beach, and La Mer are popular spots for families and adventure enthusiasts alike. For a day of fun and excitement, visit Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis or Wild Wadi Waterpark, which offer thrilling rides and attractions for all ages.
7. Explore Dubai’s Cultural Side
Beyond its glitz and glamour, Dubai has a rich cultural heritage. A visit to Al Fahidi Historical District takes you back in time with its traditional wind-tower houses, narrow lanes, and museums. The Dubai Museum, housed in Al Fahidi Fort, provides insight into the city’s history and transformation. Additionally, don’t miss a visit to Jumeirah Mosque, which offers guided tours to foster cultural understanding.
8. Indulge in Culinary Delights
Dubai’s culinary scene is as diverse as its population. From high-end restaurants run by Michelin-starred chefs to street food stalls offering authentic Middle Eastern flavors, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Traditional Emirati dishes like Al Harees and Al Machboos are worth trying. For a unique dining experience, visit Dinner in the Sky, where you can enjoy your meal suspended 50 meters above ground.
9. Take a Day Trip
If you have extra time, consider exploring areas outside Dubai. A day trip to Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s capital, is highly recommended. Visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the most beautiful mosques in the world, and explore the cultural hub of Louvre Abu Dhabi. Alternatively, the Hatta region offers a refreshing escape with its rugged mountains, Hatta Dam, and adventure activities like kayaking and hiking.
10. Attend Events and Festivals
Dubai’s calendar is filled with events and festivals that cater to various interests. The Dubai Shopping Festival, held annually, offers incredible discounts, entertainment, and fireworks. Art enthusiasts can attend Art Dubai, while food lovers can indulge in the Dubai Food Festival. Sports fans won’t want to miss the Dubai World Cup, a prestigious horse racing event.
Conclusion
Dubai’s blend of tradition and modernity makes it a destination like no other. Why It’s Popular: JBR offers a beachfront lifestyle with direct access to restaurants, shopping, and entertainment on The Walk and The Beach at JBR.
Short-Term Rental Appeal: JBR is perfect for families and leisure travelers who prioritize beach access and entertainment within walking distance.
Investment Tip: Beachfront properties and units with sea views are particularly popular and command higher rates.
5. Business Bay
Why It’s Popular: As a commercial hub, Business Bay attracts business travelers due to its proximity to Downtown Dubai and the DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre).
Short-Term Rental Appeal: Apartments in Business Bay are ideal for business professionals, especially those looking for longer stays with easy access to the city’s main commercial centers.
Investment Tip: Look for high-rise buildings with on-site amenities such as gyms, pools, and business facilities to attract professionals.
6. City Walk
Why It’s Popular: City Walk offers a mix of high-end shopping, gourmet dining, and proximity to both Jumeirah and Downtown Dubai.
Short-Term Rental Appeal: The area’s chic atmosphere attracts young professionals, couples, and families looking for a more relaxed, modern stay.
Investment Tip: Units with views of the Burj Khalifa or Jumeirah skyline are particularly attractive to visitors.
7. Dubai Sports City
Why It’s Popular: Known for sports facilities, including a golf course and the Dubai International Stadium, this area is appealing for visitors interested in a more active lifestyle.
Short-Term Rental Appeal: Ideal for families and travelers who prefer quieter surroundings but still want easy access to main city attractions.
Investment Tip: Sports City is more affordable compared to luxury areas, which makes it attractive for investors seeking steady occupancy over premium rates.
Dubai’s diverse neighborhoods offer something for every traveler, from Downtown’s luxury and landmarks to the beachfront vibes of JBR. With demand for short-term rentals continuing to rise, investing in or converting your property into a vacation rental can be a lucrative opportunity.

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa fireworks are a once-in-a-lifetime sight, so it’s important to capture the moment. Here are some tips for getting the best shots:
Use a tripod: Stability is key for long-exposure shots.
Set a low ISO: This reduces noise and ensures your images are crisp.
Wide aperture: Let in as much light as possible to highlight the brilliant colours of the fireworks.
Experiment with angles: Capture the grandeur of the Burj Khalifa alongside the fireworks to add depth and perspective to your photos.Remember to share your incredible photos on social media with hashtags like #BurjKhalifa and #NewYearsEve to relive the magic and connect with fellow travellers.
 Safety Tips
With so many people gathered for the fireworks, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings. If you’re in a crowded area, always keep an eye on your belongings.
